Sephora Favorites Best of Basics Makeup Starter Deluxe Sampler

I just recently celebrated my birthday and I got Sephora Favorites Best of Basics Makeup Starter Deluxe Sampler as a gift for myself, especially after I realized that my most of my makeup was about 2 years old or older  (except mascara of course).  So before I went and purchased my usual standbys, I decided to try out this kit and I’m so glad I did.

Here is my review of each item in order of favorites first:

Josie Maran’s argan oil – I’ve been using plain, unrefined coconut oil for years so I already know that not all oil causes acne.  But since we moved in April, I’ve had AWFUL skin. I’ve been breaking out worst than a teenager going through puberty. It recently cleared up when I was on vacation, but I broke out again as soon as I got back. I thought I’d try the oil to see if it’d help. OMG! It has been amazing. I’ve been using it for about a week and all of my acne is almost gone! The first day I used it, my face was so dry that I needed about 8 drops! But now after a week, I only need about 3 drops.  It really is amazing stuff. If you have oily skin, don’t be scared of using it. A little will go a long way and it really helps to balance your skin.

bareMinerals Sugar Cookie Lip Gloss (shimmering pink) – I love the smell of this stuff and the color is such a pretty color. My husband usually hates to kiss me when I’m wearing lip gloss, but he likes the way this one tastes. He says he doesn’t mind because its like getting a double treat at once. 😉 I usually wear it on bare lips, but I also have worn it over a maroon lip liner I have it looks outstanding, too!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel – I’ve used quite a few of brow gels in my life (I have unruly eyebrows). Now that I’m getting older, these pesky little gray hairs have decided to grace my brow line. I’ve been using one stroke of gel on my eyebrows, then a brow shaper brush and then finishing with loose brow powder. Amazing results! Almost as good as when I go to get my eyebrows tinted. No issues with the gel, but I only use one swipe and a shaper brush to distribute it. My eyebrows look as good at the end of the day as they did in the morning.

bareMinerals All-Over Face Color in Glee – I’m not a big blush person, but since this was in the set I thought I’d try it. I’m glad I did because I love the color on my face. I’ve been putting it only on the apples on my cheeks, I think its too dark to use as a contour color. Not sure I’d like it if I had porcelain skin but it looks great on light/medium skin.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion – I used to just use my cream foundation to create a base for my eye color, but I recently just switched to using tinted moisturizer. This primer works well. I haven’t tried any other eye primers to compare it but I will definitely be using eye primer from now on.

Lorac Eye Shadow in Serenity (shimmering bronze) – Its a really nice color. A little too shimmery for my liking. But I’ve been putting a matte cream color over it and its really lovely.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara – I got this kit because I have wanted to try this mascara and I was soooo excited about it. But I find its just kind of average. I’m blessed with long eyelashes, although they are not voluminous. My biggest gripe with this mascara is that it flakes by the end of the day. I only use one coat, too! However, I rarely need my make up to last very long and I do like that my eyelashes don’t feel dry. As with all samples, its possible that this mascara is a little older. I’m still on the fence as to whether or not I’ll buy it again.

Make Up For Ever Sens’Eyes Waterproof Sensitive Eye Cleanser – I’ve only used this twice. It works, so I have no complaints. But I don’t use any waterproof eye make up so I don’t have a problem taking off my eye make up regularly.

Temptu Retouch Powder – I haven’t used this yet, so I can’t give it any kind of review. I have large pores so I try to stay away from powder in general. I also already have some translucent setting powder that I like so I don’t think I’ll try this until its done.

Overall, this is a really great kit for the money and a great way to restock your make up stash. Just wish there was an eye liner in this kit and it’d be perfect!
