Recycling styrofoam packing peanuts

How many of us have gotten those packing peanuts and felt too guilty to just throw them in the trash?  Well, you’re in luck. You don’t have to any more.

The Plastic Loose Fill Council has a recycling center location finder on their website.  Also, most shipping centers like the UPS Store, Mailboxes etc.  and Box Brothers will take clean packing peanuts.

Not sure if recycling your peanuts is worth it? According to a study done in 1994, over 22 million pounds of styrene (that’s what is used to make styrofoam in its virgin form) was saved from businesses reusing peanuts returned from customers.

When using the UPS website, once you find a location near you, click on the link to view the full details for the store.  Under the heading “Additional Products and Services” there should be a listing for “Packaging Peanuts Recycling.”  Some locations even show the “Packing Peanuts Recycler” logo.
