Before heading off on our vacation I was in search of a way to bring gripe water easily on the trip without it spoiling. And then I came across Cocyntal by Boiron.

What is Cocyntal you might ask? It is a wonderful miracle worker.

Our lovely DS is not colicky. However, there is no doubt that when he is not burped properly and lets out at least 4 or 5 burps, he gets gassy and uncomfortable a bit later (Translation:  he screams bloody murder, wakes up any neighbor that is sleeping and tears actually fall down his face – not good for baby or mommy).

Even though I know this about my wonderful son, sometimes at 2 am the call for sleep often cries out to me and my son doesn’t get burped enough (I do burp him every time, but when the room is dark, my husband is asleep and our DS is asleep on my shoulder as I try to get some air out, my bed really does beckon). Of course when 6 am rolls around and my little one is screaming in agony, I of course go get him some Gripe Water, feel guilty and do my best to console him.

Luckily, Cocyntal was invented. It is a homeopathic remedy for colic/gas. Besides the fact that there is no sugar (fructose, glucose or any other form) and you don’t have to worry about overdosing, one of the best things is that it comes in single use plastic tubes! Now I just keep some on the nightstand next to where I feed DS in the middle of the night.  I give him one before I breastfeed and voila – a happy smiling baby in the morning!

Also, can’t say enough about how amazingly wonderful our DS was while we were on vacation.  I do attribute it to the Cocyntal.  We gave it to him before feeding on long car rides and in the middle of the night.  He didn’t wake up screaming and we had peaceful driving (most of the time – hunger is a whole different issue) for nearly 1,200 miles!

Thanks for posting this. I have exactly the same problem with my son, he doesn’t have colic but when he’s gassy and it’s not coming out I’ve got one hot mess of a baby on my hands. A friend picked up the Cocyntal for me but I wanted to research it before using. Cheers.

I have the same issue with my DS. I never thought to give it to him before feeding. I usually give him a dose when he is inconsolable and im at my wits end. The last two days have been rough and with my hubby in the hospital recovering from surgery, I need all the help i can get!

Did you giving Cocyntal to your son before feeding? Did it help? Just curious…
